DOWNTOWN MEXICO CITY

Enjoying the Street Food of Mexico City

At DF we like to bring you the flavours of the streets in downtown Mexico City.

We are showcasing 2 typical “Street Foods” that you will find on the Calles de la Ciudad de Mexico.

Mulitas De Asada – A Cross between a Taco & a Quesadilla.

Our “Little Mule” is 2 flour tortillas stuffed with Steak, cheese, guacamole, fresh chili and onions… as every Mule has a kick so does ours…give it a try, you will be asking for more!!

Tacos De Canasta – Basket Tacos

The name “tacos de canasta” comes from the ingenious way they used to be sold: in a wicker basket, “canasta” being the spanish word for basket. Back in those days, street vendors prepared large quantities of these delicious tacos and arranged them in the basket, wrapped in brown paper or napkins. Over time, basket tacos became a common choice for outings, picnics, or family gatherings since they stayed hot for hours.

Their unique flavor and practicality made them an essential and ideal addition for any occasion.

Our Tacos De Canasta are a steamed corn tortilla stuffed with Pork Carnitas Verde Mole & Chicharron with mashed potato. The smell and taste of these home-crafted corn tortillas stuffed will take you back to Mexico City with the first bite!!

Pork Belly Tacos

Who doesn’t enjoy soft pork belly, with a crunchy crispy skin…they are just to die for. We top flour tortillas with Guacamole, pickled red cabbage, pork belly, salsa verde and topped off with a fresh Mango & Red Habanero Salsa.. this is my go to Taco & I keep coming back for more.

All available on our specials menu currently at DF…

DF’s SPECIAL MEXICAN PIZZA

Tlayuda – The Mexican Pizza

Hailing from Oaxaca’s central valley, the Tlayuda is an iconic street food staple that shines as a shared plate.

The classic preparation, which you can find in any market in Oaxaca, at any food stall or in most restaurants, includes thin, large – about 16 inches – corn tortillas – We replace the corn with 2x Flour Tortillas.. baked to perfecto crispyness!!

To start, a layer refried black beans & shredded cheese is slathered on, serving as the base.

Toppings are then added, in the form of shredded cabbage, onions, avocado, cheese, cilantro, red & green bell peppers, rocket, Jalapeños. Then a portion and some more cheese..

If this sounds like a pizza, you’re not far off: it’s often referred to as “Mexican Pizza” by both Mexicans and foreigners alike.

We are showcasing Tlayudas at DF, from this Friday 8th Nov… With the following toppings

  • BBQ Chipotle Chicken
  • Al Pastor Pork
  • Creamy Cauliflower
  • Carne Asada

Come and try these beauties at District Federal…
